Therapy for
Anxiety
in
New York City

How Therapy for Anxiety Works

Many people experience occasional anxiety and worry in their lives, but others may become trapped in a seemingly endless loop of nervous emotions. This can manifest in different ways, such as panic attacks, phobias, or obsessive-compulsive tendencies (OCD). Sometimes it exhibits itself in worrying that is difficult to stop.

Anxiety can also present itself as a general, but ever-present, feeling of nervousness without a specific troubling worry. Regardless, anxiety is one of the most unpleasant emotions to endure.

Treat It At the Source

Through my approach to anxiety counselling, I can help you break the underlying source of anxiety and worry so you can embrace the opportunities your life holds for you.

Of course, I am also trained in various self-help techniques to help you manage your anxiety.  Some examples of these are breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation, and thought postponing, among others.

But I also attack anxiety at the source, by helping you  identify your underlying sources of anxiety and treat them at the source. For example, we can clarify what you are truly afraid of (it is not always what you think it is at first). Once we identify the root of your anxiety, we can go to work on helping you address and reduce your anxiety.

MY APPROACH - Therapy in Toronto

Some clients have told me that they tried psychotherapy in the past and shared much with the therapist, but ultimately left feeling they received little in return. That’s because many therapists sit quietly in the background and do not offer constructive feedback or tell you what they are thinking. I approach things differently and over my 25 years of experience working as a psychologist in New York City and Toronto, I have always been straightforward and interactive with clients. My main priority is to create a setting in which you feel comfortable, understood and free to express yourself. But I am also not afraid or reluctant to give you the direct feedback you need to hear. And, unlike many other therapists, I also sometimes use humor in my work. I see no contradiction between

being playful while remaining a serious and focused healer. You can read more about my treatment areas for Individuals, Couples and Teenagers.
